Third grade is about transitions. Students go through many changes throughout the year in their progression towards 4th grade.
In the beginning, we are learning to transition from second grade. Stories from our reading series become longer and have more difficult vocabulary as we change from "learning to read--to reading to learn". Our writing changes from print to cursive and follows a lengthier format using details.
As the year progresses, students begin learning multiplication and division. This is the first year we take the PARCC Tests. These tests are usually given at the beginning of March.
However, throughout the year, third graders are given tasks that match requested skills of taking PARCC so they will be ready for March.
